7 ways to be His light and love in action

Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.  I Timothy 4:12, NLT

What you do speaks louder than anything you could ever say.

Social media gives others the opportunity to see into your life. It doesn’t take long for them to figure out what holds your heart, where you spend your time, how you honor family and friends, and that you are clearly different-peculiar-in a refreshing kind of way. People are literally reading your life one blog, video,  picture, or update at a time.  And you know what, it just might be the only Truth they ever personally encounter.

When what you say lines up with what you do–people are drawn to the quality of your character and inspired by the integrity of your life.  And if you are bold enough to let them know you are a Christian–the final evidence of it will be in how they see you love.

So be a living example of His light and love in action:

  • Boldly represent the faith in what you say and what you do.
  • Invite others to hold you accountable for the alignment between your talk and walk.
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardardship of your heart, thoughts, words, and actions.
  • Talk candidly and encourage your family and friends about the significance of God-honoring values and behaviors online.
  • Set time limits and fervently monitor the time you spend online.
  • Show respect for life and safety -never text, tweet, Facebook, or check e-mail while driving.
  • Don’t allow social media or – shiny gadgets- to diminish or distract from your face-to-face time with others.

Post/Tweet this:

What you say and do represents your Redeemer to the world. By grace-keep it real and get it right. #LiveSticky

What else demonstrates His light and love in action?

As a Christ following woman, it behooves me to dress in a way that honors Him and does not cause my brother to get a wandering eye. It amazes me to see the low cut, skin-tight, too short type of clothing on teenage girls and women in the church. Don’t they realize the struggle it causes for guys who have the best of intention to keep their eyes and minds on the straight and narrow. We demonstrate His light and love in our actions of choosing the clothes we wear. Make a better choice!

Excellent point. We do need to be careful and NOT gain a distorted perspective under the influence of ‘fashion.’ Thanks for sharing!

Just…wow. This is incredible. I want to live with this in the forefront of my mind at ALL times.

One thing I would add is to do your best to stay away from debates online. If you don’t have a personal relationship with someone, debating can quickly get personal and ugly. Let’s promote unity whenever possible!

I’m with you Tony! It breaks my heart to see the debate/battle lines online drawn between Christians v. Christians and Christians v. non-Christians debating the nooks and crannies of our faith. What a waste of cyberspace. I understand diving deeper on blogs (apologetics) and truly witnessing to others or even taking a debate to Direct Message or email. What I don’t understand is that we allow the divisions in the church to spill over to cyberspace where the whole world can VIRALLY witness how dis-jointed and petty Christians (the Church) can be . . . one of the main things that keeps so many from knowing Christ.

I pray we can all find the unity you speak of—maybe we can refine that together online, one heart at a time. I believe this space holds the sparks of the next great revival.

I’ll close before I start preaching even more. Thanks for your input. I love when you drop by, Tony!
