10 powerful scriptures about who you are—through God’s eyes

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Col. 3:12

In cyberspace the temptation to lose yourself and become someone other than the real you is great. In fact, for some, it’s just way too easy. Pick a handle, find a picture, create a bio, and if you want—link it all to another web destination. Viola! Your version of you.

You slide behind the avatar and off you go. But wait…

Before you save those profile edits, do you know who you really are? Have you truly captured your saved, justified, and sanctified identity in the allotted character count?  If you need a little help remembering who you are in Christ please, read on. As a Christ follower, you have more attributes than even you may realize . . .

God’s version of you

  1. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God. I John 3:1
  2. He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.  Ephesians 1:5
  3. Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.  Psalm 27:1
  4. You were washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.  I Corinthians 6:11
  5. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone. The new has come. II Corinthians 5:17
  6. In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  I Peter 1:3
  7. He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.  Colossians 1:22
  8. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body.  I Corinthians 6:19-20
  9. We are therefore, Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf. Be reconciled to God. II Corinthians 5:20
  10. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden…In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:14-16

The first few lines of the “Who I Am” part of my About page read:

“I can tell you my testimony. I can tell you what I do for a living. I can tell you what my talents are. I can tell you what my interests are. But none of those things define me. First and foremost I am a son; a son of the Living God. That is who I am and Whose I am.”
