8 Reasons You Should Not Share the Gospel

Yes, these “8 reasons” are really “8 excuses” and we all hide one (or several) of them .  .  . somewhere. We’ve listed the “8 reasons” below and added some biblical truths to uproot the enemy’s lies. Thanks to the folks at RepentandTrust.org for making such a fun, relevant video … and inspiring the perfect April Fools Day headline! Here we go . . .

8. I might get beat up.
So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Heb. 13:6, ESV

7. I won’t make sense.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26, ESV

6. I might be made fun of.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10, ESV

5. I won’t know where to start.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5, ESV

4. I’ll be a bad witness since I’m not a perfect Christian.
Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37, ESV

3. I’ll say the wrong thing and lead someone to hell.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26, ESV

2. I’ll be viewed as a religious nut.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2, ESV

1. I don’t know enough.
It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. Rom. 9:16, NIV

So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11, NIV

What intimidates you about sharing your faith? What encourages you about God’s word in these areas?

Christ didn’t recruit volunteers to spread the gospel—He simply asked those He had rescued. #LiveSticky

So many people I know will challenge the Word and try to draw me into argument or back me in to a corner. It’s hard to determine when and how to apply scripture to a nonbeliever, especially when they have vehemently rejected the word in discussion so many times. Society has discredited the Bible to the point of mythology, so stating a reason of God’s word being in authority is not enough for them. They want other evidence to support the Bible, and are armed with argument about the veracity of historical works that support Biblical events. At some point after so many attempts, it’s best to just remember that Jesus did say not to cast your pearls before swine when it becomes clear that is what they are. Won’t stop me from praying for them, though! Only God can change a hardened heart.

I know it can be discouraging. Our responsibility is to be faithful. Sometimes we just have to keep it personal. Tell them your story, what a difference God has made in your life, and how you came to know Him. If we can let Him be seen in and through us – the Holy Spirit will do the work – He’s the One that’s doing it all anyway. Keep praying and sharing – God will bring it all home in His time. Thanks for sharing with us here today. Bless you.

Whew. Grateful it’s the message that matters and not the unadorned clay pot carrying it.
