Live Sticky: what it means and why it matters

At least once a week we get a direct message or a comment like this: “Sticky Jesus? I just don’t get it,” or we get the quick but stern “that’s disrespectful.” Thankfully, about 8 times out of 10 we get “brilliant, I love it!”

This week we’re all about how to #LiveSticky online; what it means, why you should care, and how your decision to #LiveSticky can impact the landscape of eternity.

We chose the title of our book, @stickyJesus: how to live out your faith online very carefully. No other title would do, because no other mission mattered as much. To Live Sticky (#LiveSticky) is a challenge issued to all Christ followers engaging online that they reflect the heart and character of Christ. It’s the biblical charge that our words, lives, and digital interactions transcend—and transform—the 24/7 chatter and turn people’s hearts to the things of God. It’s a call to stand for Christ in a culture that is falling for everything.

7 ways to shape up your thinking

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;  I Peter 1:13, NKJV

God designed an amazing super highway between the heart and mind. Fearfully and wonderfully made – you bet.

What we know, that many don’t, is that through the power of the Holy Spirit,  we’ve been divinely hot-wired to achieve holiness.  God uses this intricate system. He deposits a revelation in the heart and transfers it instant express mail to the mind for processing, planning, and ultimately-execution.

The human mind processes billions of messages and most of the responses to them are automatic.  By the grace of God, you’ve been given a manual overdrive called choice. The tricky part is slowing down long enough to own it and exercise it. If  you do, you’ll choose differently what you allow in and what you let out.

how to be an online game changer

Right here, right now, online you can reach in minutes the physical ground that the Apostle Paul and other game changers covered in years. Like Paul, each one of us can use God’s Word to teach, warn, motivate, and inject God’s perspective into popular culture.

the new rules of engagement

As global fluency and power of the Internet spread like wildfire, publishing, broadcasting, music, and print industries, among others, are hanging on to their parcels of economic land for dear life; some are vanishing forever along the way. Media companies are investing unprecedented dollars in social networking education, riding the learning curve, and hustling to redefine themselves or face extinction.

The goal among communicators today is to get their message to the world before faster, savvier, smarter, louder people marginalize them—for good.

It stands to reason that Christ followers (and the church) should respond accordingly as the rules of engagement continue to change.

the importance of being light online

Do you really believe you can do greater things empowered by the Holy Spirit than even Christ did while He walked the earth?

Perhaps if you did—if we all did—things might look differently around us. Jesus charged His believers to get up and go, to share the truth about Him with the world.

He called those believers, and He’s calling you, a “light.”

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Matthew 5:14,  NIV

What does light do? It makes things visible and more easily understood. God’s light helps others see what they didn’t see—or couldn’t see—when the lights were out.

@stickyJesus now available!

People are talking. A lot.

In fact, they spend over 110 billion minutes a month on social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Some are ranting. Some are raving. Almost all are revealing their hearts and minds like never before. This historic social shift is a dream come true for big brand marketers, political parties, and just about anyone who has something to say.

So how do you—a Christ follower—navigate the noise, dodge the danger, talk the tech, and speak life and hope into the online space?

You get sticky. Just like Jesus.

finding focus in the follower frenzy

We marvel as we daily unpack all the Gospel-sharing possibilities online for today’s Christ follower. While the communication methods have radically changed, the end game hasn’t. The God-given expectation to share His Truth and extend the invitation to others remains constant. In the beginning, the first followers leveraged whatever platform was available and they were never confused about their orders or the cost. Paul’s words demonstrate this perspective:

God didn’t send me out to collect a following for myself,
but to preach the Message of what he has done, collecting a following for Him.
And He didn’t send me to do it with a lot of fancy rhetoric of my own,
lest the powerful action at the center – Christ on the Cross – be trivialized into mere words.”

I Corinthians 1:17

Paul kept it real and all about Jesus. In a time when our media is buzzing with ‘who are you following and who is following you’ Christ followers have to be committed to The Source, charge, and purpose. Paul got it and we need to get it too. As we roll forward we want to stay center to the road.

On this site, we are setting our hearts toward how we can:

LEARN FROM CHRIST: Jesus Christ was the Master of gathering followers, connecting, building community and impacting lives. He came to not only save us — but to show us how to live. We want to go there with you and be fully immersed in the authenticity and eternal relevance of our Lord.

BE TRANSFORMED: Being a Christ follower online takes a different kind of vulnerability and discipline. Let’s face it — spiritual maturation is a lifelong journey. It’s about change from the inside out. It’s not just about what we are called to do, but also what He is doing in us as we follow where He leads. In God’s economy, you can’t live and love like Him without it splashing back and changing you.

DEMYSTIFY SOCIAL MEDIA: It’s time to leverage the mission field at our fingertips. We don’t claim to know all the answers to all the questions of a medium that changes rapidly every day. But God is faithful to give us just what we need when we need it. We want to remove the veil and help every Christ follower to jump in and communicate with impact. As Jesus sent His Holy Spirit to come alongside us —we too want to come alongside others that have a passion to reach the world for Christ through the powerful medium of social networking. No mystery, no big price tags, just the simple ‘how to’ instruction — easy and engaging. We don’t want anyone that follows Christ to miss out on what He is doing in such a time as this.

We’ll readily share what we have been shown and ask you to do the same!

welcome to!

We’re over the top that you stopped in to see us and we want you to stick with us!

If you are interested in how to live  out your faith in a web-based world we hope you find this site a perfect place to stop, soak, and contribute.  We felt the birth pains of inspiration for what is possible for Christ followers in this era of social media explosion. As we make clear our intentions and lay out our hearts – we are impressed to be faithful in three areas: learn from Christ, be transformed, and demystify social media. Because we believe in the sovereignty of God and that each of us has a place in His-story, we accept this day as His perfect time for each of us to connect for Christ online.

We don’t question His timing or this crazy world around us; in fact we fully embrace it. We know we are called to follow Him, and that He charged us to share the truth – to the ends of the earth. Never before in history has the ability to accomplish the Great Commission been more possible. Praise God for the people and the technology that created the 2.0 web platform. We are learning, growing, and stepping boldly into such a time as this. It is a glorious time where Light, Truth, and Hope can be shared around the world with the simple completion of a few key strokes.
