the gospel way

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. – John 19:30, NIV.

Where I am made complete.

In remembrance of Good Friday, here’s an adaptation of The Gospel Way from The Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers and Devotions by Arthur Bennett. (originally posted 4/22/11)

Blessed Lord Jesus,

No human mind could conceive or invent the gospel. Acting in eternal grace You are both its Messenger and its Message.

You lived it out on earth through infinite compassion, applying Your life to insult, injury, and death, that I might be redeemed, ransomed, and freed.

Blessed be You, Father, for contriving this way.

Thanks to You, Lamb of God, for opening this way.

Praise everlasting to You, Holy Spirit.

What will you point, click, and scatter?

By Tami Heim

There’s a design feature in the masterpiece of creation that gives a planted seed the possibility to grow strong and bear fruit. In the same way the words you post in your network conversations are digital seeds. You point, click, and scatter them daily on a cyber mission field. Each one of them has the potential to travel a trillion megabytes, land somewhere unexpected, take root, grow strong, and bear fruit.

7 ways to be certain you don’t miss the point

Luke 7:37-39

By Tami Heim

Jesus commands His followers to love God and love people. Every connection He makes serves to emphasize this point. By invitation, He forgives, redeems, and introduces His Kingdom in real-time.

When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.

~ Luke 7:36, NIV

Jesus loves and leverages the power of story. With them, He resets cultural boundaries, rocks the status quo, and accentuates a love beyond the law that few comprehend. Stories with unprecedented compassion and forgiveness relocate hearts to foreign and uncomfortable places. His holy agenda permeates what He says and all He does.

the gift of being called “a friend”

I call you, friend.

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. – John 15:15, NKJV

By Tami Heim

Jesus called His followers friends long before it was culturally cool for you to call your online followers the same.  If you look to and learn from the Author and Finisher of your faith you’ll experience the breadth and depth of what it means to be called a friend. There is no better day than this one to fall in love again with the Giver of so great a gift.

whom shall I send? who will go for us?

I'm ready - send me!

Here I am, Send me! – Isaiah 6:8, NIV

By Tami Heim

Right now one faithful voice, filled with Holy Spirit inspiration, has the potential to reach millions around the world.  The cyber mission field has emerged and God’s calling digital disciples to make a dent in the darkness found there. He’s asking you to power on!

We live in a time when people often talk about being ‘on mission’ in their work and life. This reference implies focus, determination, and purpose. You immediately picture people deliberately moving through life, striving to achieve a long list of specific goals they believe will deliver satisfaction and happiness.

Sadly, for many whatever is accomplished never quite obtains the satisfaction and happiness expected. The ‘more to life’ remains missing.

10 lessons for living out faith on Google + and beyond

May I be pleasing in Your sight.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. ~ Psalm 19:14, NIV

By Tami Heim

One evening while trying to get my mind around how Google + fit into my social media routine, I found myself in pause mode. An intense conversation between a small group of men caught my attention.

Dialog bounced back and forth like a Michigan hockey puck. Each person took his shot at vehemently recanting all the things he hated about Facebook.  For me, hate is a strong word, but I found myself stuck there, nonetheless, listening.

10 simple truths about being present

Be Present.

By Tami Heim

It’s Catalyst week in Atlanta and over 13,000 pastors, ministry leaders, and their staff have assembled to be challenged, stretched, encouraged, and inspired. The Catalyst team excels at creating a world-class experience. The theme for 2011 is “BE PRESENT” and I can’t think of a stickier state-of-being than this one.

Catalyst President and CEO @BradLomenick sums it up this way,

“BE PRESENT” is one of the most convicting and challenging topics we’ve ever tackled. In today’s consumer-driven culture, we all find ourselves distracted and overwhelmed by the myriad of diversions life throws at us on a daily basis. The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet. But how will we recognize that place if we are living in a constant state of distraction?”

Challenging topic?  No doubt. Particularly true for an arena loaded with highly connected, tech savvy, social media maniacs (BTW – that love Jesus, too.) If you happen to be on twitter, you can search for the hashtag #CAT11. That stream immediately connects you to the Catalyst conversation and experience. Those present in- real-life at the conference virtually enable you to be present, too. You can follow the flow as each session helps you embrace what God has right in front of you, right where you are.

when his story becomes yours…

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

I Peter 3:15, NIV

Will you share your story?

By Tami Heim

When you decide to surrender your life and follow Jesus, the combination of His love and grace activates a massive transformation. When God’s story becomes your story, change begins on the inside and then moves outside where others can’t help but notice it.  New replaces old and life is never the same again.

The Holy Spirit works in and around you. Whether someone’s known you most of your life or meets you for the first time – it’s quite clear – You are different.

As you daily live out your faith, God uses this difference in you to draw others to Him. Job #1 mandates you to be ready at all times to give the reason for the hope that’s within you. Now you no longer need to wait to be asked.

Inspired by Max Lucado and his new book, God’s Story, Your Story: When His Becomes Yours, a movement and site called His Is Mine launches today. With its release comes the opportunity for you to share your story throughout all your social media networks. Join with other believers and be a global witness in such a time as this.

7 ways to build courage and speak truth

Be courageous and take heart all you who hope in the Lord.

By Tami Heim

But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand. Acts 4:4, NIV

Peter and John knew well the walls of captivity, but it never slowed them down. For them every situation was an opportunity to share Jesus with a new audience. When they spoke, people were saved and lives changed. The Holy Spirit perfected the sequence of their words and they courageously delivered it.

  • Assert the name of Jesus.
  • Share the message of salvation.
  • Extend the invitation.
  • Step back and watch the Holy Spirit complete the work.

God used ordinary men to move with extraordinary confidence and courage. For them, nothing else mattered – nothing. That same power and courage are waiting to be released in you.
