6 big ideas for how to live and be online

Releasing your gifts online is a holy act of worship.

By Tami Heim

Click on your favorite social media site and it’s easy to dismiss your digital impression as just a blip on the screen. Be warned, however, there’s danger in that kind of thinking. Go too far and the next thing you know, fear and insecurity show up. When you discount your influence online, you deny God’s ability to work through you. Remember, you’re a precious original. He’s made you one of a kind. You’re gifted to do good work and that includes online.

Your consistency, whole-hearted commitment, and dedication to being completely what God created you to be illuminates the way for others. It also builds up and strengthens the whole body of Christ.

And that’s why there’s more

God designed you to compliment and complete others. Deliberately commissioned, you’re here as a member of  His body to accomplish His plan for this generation. When you decide to live out your faith online, fully live it out; God’s progress is radically accelerated.

In chapter 12 of Paul’s letter to the Romans, you find the practical action plan for how to live and be. All of it’s applicable to you, online. Offer back to God the best of what He has put in you and your lives individually and collectively become a living sacrifice and a holy act of worship. It’s a beautiful thing and the consequences are eternal.

the possibility of living out your faith – simply

God loves. He gave. You believe. You live.

By Tami Heim

Do you ever get tangled up in online conversations that strive to clarify Truth? Every day waves of voices compete to rise above the noise. The sound jams the high-speed connections of your life with a constant buzz. Discernment can be challenging. You begin to wonder, “Has the truth always been this complicated? What happened to simply living out my faith?”

It’s unsettling to feel the push and pulls of religious debates as they bump and bruise the essence of what you believe. In every network stream, someone is serving up theology by way of numbered lists, strict guidelines, ordered facts, or linked references. All of them are well intended and created to help you, and the rest of us, get it right.

10 lessons for living out faith on Google + and beyond

May I be pleasing in Your sight.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. ~ Psalm 19:14, NIV

By Tami Heim

One evening while trying to get my mind around how Google + fit into my social media routine, I found myself in pause mode. An intense conversation between a small group of men caught my attention.

Dialog bounced back and forth like a Michigan hockey puck. Each person took his shot at vehemently recanting all the things he hated about Facebook.  For me, hate is a strong word, but I found myself stuck there, nonetheless, listening.

digital outreach month: rise up and be heard

Christians and social networks, statitstics

Oh thank God – he’s so good! His love never runs out. All of you set free by God, tell the world! Tell how he freed you from oppression, then rounded you up from all over the place, from the four winds, from the seven seas. – Psalm 107:2, The Message

By Tami Heim

When you surrendered your life to Christ and confessed Jesus as Lord – you were anointed by the Holy Spirit to be significant. Yes, that’s right, as your name was written in the book of life the nod was given and the expectation set that your life and words would proclaim His redemptive plan to restore whosoever believes. Now, like no other time in history, the significance of a Christ follower’s voice and potential impact for the kingdom has never been greater.

are you ready to get in the action?

He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit and when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea, and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” – Luke 1:7-8, The Message

Eugene H. Peterson, in Conversations: The Message Bible with its Translator, shares this in the introduction to the book of Acts:

“The story of Jesus doesn’t end with Jesus. It continues in the lives of those who believe in him. The supernatural does not stop with Jesus. Luke makes it clear that these Christians he wrote about were no more spectators of Jesus than Jesus was a spectator of God – they are in on the action of God, God acting in them, God living in them. Which also means, of course, in us.”

sneak peek chapter 1: welcome to the Land of Shiny Things

Today’s post is an except from the first chapter of  @stickyJesus: How to Live Out Your Faith Online by Tami Heim and Toni Birdsong.

Look around. Welcome to the Land of Shiny Things. Your citizenship was not overtly solicited but gradually you made your way here. You are an unwitting but active, dues-paying resident.

The Land of Shiny Things is a finely manicured mental, spiritual, and physical subdivision of our universal domain. It is the cookie-cutter context that wraps itself around your mind daily, and for lack of an intuitive escape route, you fall into it way to easily.

the seduction of cyber celebrity

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? –Mark 8:36

By Tami Heim

Social media in the land of shiny things, allows virtually anyone the opportunity to affirm and feed your ego with something as simple as a like, follow or retweet button. If you’re not careful, you can end up like our friend over there, hanging out in the pot on the stove. He’s absolutely clueless he’s only a few degrees away from, well, you know

Matt Brown, the Pastor of Sandals Church said, “The enemy of authenticity is celebrity.”

If you don’t have your ego in check,  the seduction of cyber celebrity can take you down fast-really fast. It requires daily surrender for anyone wanting to keep it real and maintain a God-centered perspective online. Be sure you know the warning signs when you get close to danger. Check your temperature often. When the enemy starts messing with you-things can heat up quickly.

Here’s summary of how cyber seduction happens…
